Expeditions: OneBlood Expedition Greg and I will be climbing the three tallest mountains in Africa: Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Mt. Kenya in Kenya, and Mt. Stanley in Uganda. We will only be using human power to move from mountain to mountain. We will bike from Mt. Kilimanjaro to Mt. Kenya and; from Mt. Kenya to Lake Victoria, (the largest lake in Africa). We will transfer to kayaks and spend about a week crossing the lake. We will retrieve our bikes and bike to Mt. Stanley to climb our last mountain. We selected this route so that we could travel through as many different ecosystems in East Africa as possible. We have many stops planned along the way including Masai Warrior camps, tiny island villages on Lake Victoria, and remote jungle villages hidden in the forests of Uganda. We will be taking a group of people with us to Africa to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro the tallest mountain in Africa. The group will consist of young executives, teachers, nurses, and students. We are calling this portion of the trip the “Kilimanjaro Leadership Summit”. The summit serves two functions, first: It will challenge and push the climbers physically and mentally to help them learn more about themselves and become better leaders. Second, there is no greater place to have a meeting of the minds than on top of a mountain. With greater focus and appreciation for the beautiful places of Africa we will have greater clarity to discuss strategies in eliminating malaria. My brother Greg and I will leave the group after climbing Kilimanjaro and start the second portion of the trip. It is our hope that the One Blood Expedition will bring attention to our non profit we have named the One Blood Initiative. The initiatives mission is to educate people on the issues surrounding malaria, inspire them to become involved, and use all of our energy to find a solution to eradicate this deadly disease. Our hope is that malaria will be eradicated in our lifetime. It is our desire for the 109 nations that have a malaria problem to capture this vision and, in turn, empower their local communities, leaders, and governments to become more involved. The eradication of malaria will be a huge step towards eliminating global poverty. You can get more information at www.onebloodinitiative.org. |

The journey began by climbing Mt. McKinley, in Denali National Park, Alaska. They then hopped on a bike packed with all their gear and rode through Alaska, Yukon Territory, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, California and rode into Mexico. Along the way stopped in San Francisco to catch a boat to the Farallon Islands, where they scuba dived with Great White Sharks. |
